Brian Switzer has been teaching private lessons for over twenty years. All of his graduating private students have continued to participate in music at the college level. Many with scholarship.

Brian taught at Borel Middle School for twelve years leading the Borel Jazz Band to the NextGen Monterey Jazz Festival on three memorable occasions. He regularly does workshops at the local middle and high schools.

In 2014 Brian self-published his first "book" JazzDeck, an innovative approach to teaching, learning and applying jazz theory to improvisation. WithJazzDeck has quickly become a standard in jazz education and is currently the jazz theory and improvisation resource in thousands of band rooms across the country. Brian now travels the country giving improvisation clinics and educating band directors in ways to make improvisation accessible to all students.

Mr. Switzer toured for two years as the solo trumpet player for the Grammy award-winning band Train which included several live television spots. The highlight, however, was playing Robin's theme song at Howard Stern's birthday bash in NYC. Brian also played several U.S. dates with Muse including sold out shows at Madison square garden and the Forum in Los Angeles.  Other notable live performances include: Ronnie Spector, Joan Rivers, Peter Cetera, Connie Francis, Darondo, Michael McGuire, The Mountain Play,

Brian started the NorCal Jazz Camp in 2007 where students learn how to improvise and structure home practice sessions. All private students are able to attend NorCal Jazz Camps free of charge.

Lessons occur in a beautiful home located a few blocks away from downtown Burlingame. Parents are always welcome to come inside, as the lesson is drawing to a close, and take a moment to listen in on the music lesson. Students are more engaged during weekly practice when parents know what is expected in terms of home practice.
